Science Blog 3 (Class Response)
In class right now, we are learning about symbiotic relationships. Symbiotic relationship is the relationship between two species, depending on which specie benefits and which specie is harmed. The project we have to do is about symbiotic relationship. First we had to pick two species that have a symbiotic relationship. Because of that, I picked a deer and a tick. Those two have a symbiotic relationship because the tick sucks the deer blood for it's own. The relationship is that they are parasitism. There are three types of relationships, the first is commensalism, second is mutualism, and the last is parasitism. Commensalism describes the relationship between two living organisms, where one benefits and the other is not unaffected or helped. Mutualism describes the relationship between two living organisms where both of them benefit. Parasitism describes the relationship between two living organisms, where one benefits and the other is harmed. After we have picked the picture, we have to write about it. What we have to write is where you found the picture, what type of symbiotic relationship it is, explain the relationship, and why it is important to in nature! My picture is parasitism because the tick sucks blood from the deer so the tick isn't harmed, the deer is harmed.Posted by simplybf16 at 1:11 PM 0 comments

Science Blog 2 (Current Event)

WHAT: They found the hottest planet called WASP-12b. It is about 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, or 2,200 degrees Celsius, and orbits its star faster and closer in than any other unknown world. The planet circles extremely close-in to its star; about 2 percent of the distance from the Earth to the sun, in fact, or 2 million miles (3.4 million kilometers).
WHERE: The planet is in the space and based in UK, telescopes in Spain's Canary Islands and in South Africa scan the sky searching for distant planets that cross in front of their stars.
WHEN: It was first announced in April 2008, though its distinction as the hottest and yet the fastest; orbiting planet was confirmed Oct. 11 2008.
WHY: It was an annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society's Division for Planetary Sciences by co-discoverer Leslie Hebb of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.
MY OPINION: It is so cool how they found the hottest yet the fastest planet. The planet itself looks so cool and really bright. I wonder why the scientists call it the WASP-12b. That is a good name but still weird. Overall, this is a planet that would be so nice and cozy to live in but no one would love to.

Science Blog 1(Current Event)

WHO: The Scientists who study space. Kevin Baines, Cassini scientist on the visual and infrared mapping spectrometer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, and another Cassini imaging team member Tony DelGenio of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York.
WHAT: They discovered a giant cyclone swirling on Saturn. The cyclone is as small as 120 kilometers (75 miles). It is rotating at 325 mph (530 kph) which is more than twice as fast as the highest winds measured in cyclones on our Earth.
WHERE: On Saturn's north pole, and observed a similar storm on the planet's south pole in detail, 10 times greater than before.
WHEN: They found out before but the article was posted on Monday, October 13, 2008
WHY: The researchers for space, think that the storms are powered by heat which is released from condensing water from the thunderstorms. They are deep down in the atmosphere, which is almost like the way condensing water in clouds on Earth that powers the hurricanes. The Saturn cyclones have no water at their bases, but the hurricanes on Earth, form from the heat and water.
MY OPINION: I think that is is really bad if there really is a giant cyclone on Saturn because it can be really dangerous. Another reason it is bad is because it is at the north pole and the south pole! Since the miles per hour for the cyclone it so fast, it is really strong and forceful. Just by looking at the picture, you can tell that it is so big! I wonder if it can spread... If it can, then probably Saturn be covered with a huge cyclone which no one would be able to fix! Overall, cyclones are really bad, epically when they are in another planet and no one can do anything about it.

Science (Extra Credit)
Not only the rainy weather is affecting India, even the hotness they all have there. Since it is really hot there, people are getting really sick and some died with heart attacks because of the hotness. All that heat is affecting everybody's moods and body systems. If it rains when it is hot outside, then it would be really humid. Since I am from India, this all makes me so upset but we can't change the weather so we can't really do anything. Weather is natural so we just have to deal with it even if we don't like it. But without weather, we wouldn't really be living well because weather should be everything to us. Floods. droughts, thunder. etc, weather is weather and it can NEVER change!

| Wind and Window Flower by: Robert Frost |
| Lovers, forget your love, And list to the love of these, She a window flower, And he a winter breeze. When the frosty window veil Was melted down at noon, And the caged yellow bird Hung over her in tune, He marked her though the pane, He could not help but mark, And only passed her by To come again at dark. He was a winter wind, Concerned with ice and snow, Dead weeds and unmated birds, And little of love could know. But he signed upon the sill, He gave the sash a shake, As witness all within Who lay that night awake. Perchange he half prevailed To win her for the flight From the firelight looking-glass And warm stove-window light. But the flower leaned aside And thought of naught to say, And morning found the breeze A hundred miles away. |
2)How does the poets knowledge of weather enhance the poem? The poets knowledge of weather enhances the poem by making it more descriptive. For example, "he was a winter wind, concerned with ice and snow." This line means that the wind during the winter is cold and really icy.
3)What type of weather is discussed? The type of weather that is most discussed is wind.
4)Would the poem be the same without the mention of weather? The poem would not be the same without the mention of weather because the whole poem is about wind, breeze, winter, and flower. Without weather mentioned, the poem would make no sense or wouldn't even be a poem.
5)What literary techniques are used in the poem regards to the weather? There are so many literary techniques used in the poem regards to the weather. Though there are so many, the most important one is personification. Personification because the author gives the flowers and breeze human qualities. For example, it says the "she is a window flower, and he is a winter breeze.
6)Does this poem further your knowledge about weather? This poem does further my knowledge about weather because you can learn how the winter breeze acts, looks, what it sees, etc. You can even learn how the flower grows near the wind, acts, looks, etc. It even describes the movement of wind and the window flower!

Thirty years ago in India, there were no washing machines to use. If there were, only the rich people had it. In India, not that many people were rich but still there were a good amount of people who were. Washing machines was a really good invention because now you don't have to waste your time dipping clothes in water and then hanging them. Before when they didn't have washing machines, it was a really hard labor work to wash clothes. It helps you to getting more cleaner clothing and more time to do other things while the clothes are washing in the machine. Using that, you get less stress. This invention has made the greatest impact on society because you can wash your clothes properly. Back then in India, the very few people who did have washing machines, weren't that advanced as they are now. As time went on, they got more advanced, expensive, and more popular to buy. Therefore, washing machines was a huge impact on society maybe back then to the people who did have them and today to all of us!

WHAT: Flipping a coin might not be the fairest or best way to make decisions.
WHERE: Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz.
WHEN: March 3, 2004
WHY: Mathematical people say that the coin has to flipped in a certain way to be fair every time. In order to make it fair, you have to flip the coin in air in a certain way so that it is even. They say that if heads it facing up then the person who chose head, has a better chance of winning. So the person who chose tails won't really have a good chance of winning.
My Opinion: Some people who flip a coin don't even make it go 360 degrees. So if you need to use a coin for something next time, do it the right way or think of something else. There are so many other ways to chose things if you don't know how to flip the coin right.

140-Year-Old Math Problem Solved By Researcher
WHO: Researcher at Imperial College London.WHAT: The researcher solved a word problem that was 140 years old. It was first formed during the 19th century. It was a math problem or a formula.
WHERE: At Imperial College London
WHEN: It doesn't really say
WHY: Just to see what the answer would become and for fun. No one could figure it out o he tried and he got it.
My Opinion: That was really cool because it was 140 years old and no one knew how to do it. The person who found out was probably really smart.

Scientists find ‘Devil Toad’ fossil
WHAT: Scientists found a frog the size of a bowling bowl which weighs 10 pounds and is 16 inches long.
WHERE: In Washington. The bones found in Madagascar.
WHEN: On Monday February 18, 2008
WHY: The paleontologists found the frog for a research. That "Devil Toad" is known to have heavy armor and teeth. It lived among the dinosaurs millions of years ago. The scientists, say that it could have taken down some hatching dinosaurs. The name Beelzebub means devil in the Greek language. The continents drifted apart show what is now Madagascar would have been long separated by ocean from South America during Beelzebufo's time. And frogs can't survive long in salt water, it is bad for them.
My Opinion: It is cool on how they found this frog. It is so big and looks weird but it is from so long back so that is good. Now we know what frogs or toads ate during the dinosaur era. I liked this article because there was a lot of information to learn about how those frogs lived there and how they survived in Madagascar.

What is matter? Well, matter is what we live under and our surroundings. Matter is what the whole world is made up of. Matter is anything that has mass and volume. The general properties of matter are mass, weight, volume, and density. General properties describe how all matter are the same, and specific properties describe the differences among forms of matter. Some examples of recognizable matter are, wood, water, salt, clay, glass, gold, plants, animals, even a piece of the moon. Through your four senses; smell, sight, taste, and touch, your familiar with matter. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, and air are some kinds of matter that can not easily be recognized. Properties of matter describe color, odor, size, shape, texture, and hardness. Specific properties are not hard to tell, for example, it is not hard to tell a red apple form a green apple, or a smooth rock from a rough rock. In matter, weight is a general property. Weight is never constant, it always changes depending on where you are. For example, if you try to carry someone on the Earth and can't, then when you go on the moon, you will be able to. Since matter is an everyday thing, then everyone feels, sees, tastes, and smells everyday even if they are not knowing that. Matter was a really interesting and fun topic to do.
